Majestic in All the Earth
A Sunday prayer of praise shaped by Psalm 8
Psalm 8:1-9NIV
LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. We gather on this first day of the week to say so, and we ask you to receive the praise of a people who are small under a very large sky.
You set the moon and the stars in place with your fingers. We have seen them and been silenced. And yet you are mindful of us. You care for us. You have crowned us with glory and honor that we did not earn and could never manufacture. Forgive us for the ways we have thrown that crown in the dirt this week, by treating ourselves as worthless or by treating others as less than image-bearers.
Make our praise like the praise of children today, unselfconscious and loud. Silence the enemy through the worship of ordinary people in ordinary rooms. Let no one in our congregations feel too small to sing.
We thank you for Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for our sake and is now crowned. Set everything under his feet, and bring us with him. Amen.
