A Prayer for the Weary at the Day's End

God of the long day, we come to you tired. Some of us are tired in the body, some in the mind, and some in ways we cannot name. We have done what we could. We have left some things undone. We bring you both.

Thank you for the work that went well. Thank you, too, for the help we did not notice while it carried us. Where we were short with others, soften the memory and mend what we broke. Where others were short with us, keep us from carrying it into tomorrow.

Teach us to set down what is not ours to hold through the night. Give us sleep that is real rest, and a morning that begins again. We ask nothing grand. We ask only to be kept, and to wake ready.
