A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when strength is thin and the mind will not settle.
God of rest, we come to you worn down. The day asked more of us than we had to give, and we have little left. We do not pretend to be stronger than we are. You already know.
Quiet the noise we carry home. Loosen the grip of the things we could not finish. Where we were short with someone, teach us to put it right tomorrow. Where someone was short with us, help us to let it go tonight.
We remember your word: "Be still, and know that I am God." Still us now. Steady our breathing. Hold the people we love while we cannot.
Give us sleep that mends. Meet us again in the morning, before the first demand arrives. And carry those who will not rest tonight — the sick, the grieving, the ones on watch. Amen.
