Cleanse Us From Hidden Faults
A prayer from the closing verses of Psalm 19
Psalm 19:12-14NIV
LORD, our Rock and our Redeemer, the heavens have been preaching to us all morning and your word has been open before us, and still we confess that our own hearts are hard to read. Who can discern their own errors? We cannot. Forgive our hidden faults, the sins we have not noticed and the ones we have taught ourselves not to see.
Keep us from willful sins. Do not let them rule over us. You know the places where we have made peace with what displeases you and called it personality or circumstance. Break that peace, gently but firmly, so that we may be blameless and innocent of great transgression.
Take our words today. Every message, every meeting, every sentence spoken at the dinner table. And take the meditation of our hearts, the thoughts underneath the words that no one else hears. Make both pleasing in your sight.
You are the Rock we stand on and the Redeemer who bought us. We rest on the one and belong to the other. Amen.
