A Prayer With Hannah's Song
A prayer of praise built on the God who lifts the poor from the dust.
1 Samuel 2:1-10NIV
Holy God, there is no one like you and no Rock beside you. We join Hannah in her song this morning, and Mary after her, and every soul that has been lifted from the dust and seated where it did not expect to sit.
You break the bows of the mighty and give strength to the stumbling. You send poverty and wealth, you humble and you exalt. Teach us not to fear the arrogant nor to envy the full, because the last word belongs to you and you have already spoken it in your anointed King.
Guard your faithful ones. Keep the children in our churches from the corruption of Eli's sons and raise up among them those who will do what is in your heart. Where we have become comfortable in religious position and cold in actual love, wake us. And let our praise, like Hannah's, start with what you have done for us and widen until it takes in the ends of the earth. Through Jesus Christ, your Anointed. Amen.
