A Prayer of Thanks for What We Could Not See
A Monday prayer giving thanks for the ordinary faithfulness God weaves into his purposes.
Ruth 4:13-17NIV
Lord of every generation, we thank you that you were writing David's story while Naomi wept on the road from Moab. We thank you that you were preparing the line of Jesus while Ruth gleaned in a stranger's field. You see the end from the beginning and you are not anxious in the middle.
Give us the faith to live as names in a list we cannot read. Let us do the plain, faithful thing today, at work and at home and among your people, and trust you with what it adds up to. Deliver us from the need to see the whole story before we will play our part in it.
And where any of us has said that you brought us back empty, bring us in your time to the place where we can say that you have not left us without a redeemer. Fill our laps with what we did not expect. We ask it through Jesus, son of David, son of Boaz and Ruth, our Redeemer. Amen.
