A Prayer for Those Who Must Go

A prayer shaped by the call of Abram for anyone standing at the edge of obedience.

Genesis 12:1-4NIV

Father, you spoke to Abram and he went. We confess that we like to know the destination before we take the first step. We want the land shown to us before we leave the house. Give us the kind of trust that can pack up on the strength of your word alone.

Some of us are being asked to leave something this week. A comfort, a grudge, a plan that was ours and not yours. Some of us are being asked to stay somewhere hard and build an altar there. Make us willing either way.

Thank you that your promise to Abram reaches us. Through his offspring, through Jesus, you have blessed all the families of the earth, and we are among them. Let the blessing not stop with us. Make us a blessing to our neighbors, our coworkers, our children, and to people we have not yet met.

When we falter, as Abram did in Egypt, keep your promise anyway. Bring us out. We ask this in the name of Jesus, the true son of Abraham. Amen.

A Prayer for the Tired

For the end of a long day, when strength is thin and the mind will not settle.
