A Prayer for the Weary at the Day's End
A prayer for those who have carried much and reached evening with little left.
God of the long day, we come to you tired. Some of us worked hard and have little to show for it. Some of us sat with grief, or waited by a phone, or carried a worry we could not set down. You know what each day held before we tell you. We tell you anyway.
Take from us what we cannot keep. We are not strong enough to hold the whole world together, and you have not asked us to. That work is yours. Teach us the difference between the burden we are meant to carry and the one we have simply refused to put down.
Give us sleep that heals. Guard those we love while our eyes are closed. And when morning comes, let us begin again, not alone, but with you beside us.
We ask this in trust, and we wait for the morning. Amen.
