A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when the work is unfinished and the heart is heavy.
God of the morning and the evening, we come to you worn thin.
The day asked more of us than we had. Some of it we did well. Much of it we left undone. We do not pretend otherwise, and we trust that you do not love us less for it.
Give us rest that is real rest. Quiet the voices that keep counting what we failed to finish. Hold the people we are anxious for, the ones we named and the ones we forgot to name.
Teach us to lay the day down the way a child lays down a heavy bag at the door, glad to be home.
Tomorrow will have its own troubles, and its own mercies. For tonight, let us be still, and know that you are near.
In your name we pray. Amen.
