A Prayer for the Weary
For the end of a long day, when strength is thin and the mind will not rest.
God of the quiet hours, I come to you tired.
The day asked more of me than I had to give, and some of it I did badly. I set it down now. Take the work I finished and the work I left undone. Take the words I wish I had not said, and the ones I should have spoken and did not.
Steady the people I love. Keep watch over the ones I worry about by name, the ones who are ill, the ones who are afraid, the ones who are far from home. Where I can help them tomorrow, make me willing. Where I cannot, teach me to trust you with them.
Loosen my hold on the things I cannot fix tonight. Let me sleep. Let me wake with enough for the morning, and no more than I need.
I ask this in hope, and I wait on you.
Amen.
