A Prayer for the Tired
For anyone who comes to the end of the day with little left to give.
God of the morning and the evening, we come to you as we are. Some of us are rested. Many of us are not. We bring the day we have had, not the day we meant to have.
Thank you for small things. For bread we did not go without. For a kind word we did not expect. For work that was finished, and for work that can wait.
Forgive us where we were sharp, or slow to listen, or quick to judge. Soften what the day has hardened in us.
Be near to those who are afraid tonight, and to those who will not sleep. Hold the sick, the grieving, and the ones who care for them.
Teach us to lay down what is not ours to carry. Give us rest, and in the morning give us strength enough for the morning. Amen.
