A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when the words come slowly and the work is not done.
God, I come to you tired. Not defeated, but tired. The kind of tired that sleep does not always fix.
You know the shape of my day. The things I finished. The things I did not. The person I meant to call. The patience I meant to keep and lost somewhere after noon. I bring all of it to you, not to be scored, but to be set down.
Teach me to rest without guilt. Teach me to work without fear. Help me to tell the difference between what is mine to carry and what I have only picked up out of habit.
Be near to the people I love, and to the people I find hard to love. Hold the ones I worry about when I cannot.
Give me enough light for the next step. Not the whole road. Just the next step.
And when I wake, let me begin again. Amen.
