A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when strength is thin and the mind will not rest.
Father, I come to you at the close of this day. I am tired. Some of the work is done; some of it is not. I bring both to you, the finished and the unfinished, and I ask you to hold what I cannot.
Quiet the thoughts that circle. Loosen the grip of the things I cannot change tonight. Where I have been short with others, forgive me. Where others have been short with me, help me to let it go.
Thank you for the small mercies I almost missed. For a meal. For a kind word. For breath, still coming, without my effort.
Teach me to trust that the world keeps turning while I sleep, held not by me but by you.
Give me rest tonight, and strength enough for tomorrow. I ask no more than that. Amen.
