A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when rest feels far off and the mind will not settle.
God of the morning and the evening, we come to you tired. Some of us are tired in the body. Some are tired in a way that sleep does not touch. You know which it is for each of us, and you do not ask us to explain.
We bring you the day that is ending. The work we finished and the work we did not. The words we meant and the words we wish back. We lay them down here, in your hands, and we leave them.
Teach us to rest without guilt. Teach us that the world turns while we sleep, held by you and not by us.
Keep those who cannot rest tonight: the anxious, the grieving, the ones on watch while others sleep. Be near to them.
We ask this plainly, trusting you to hear. Amen.
