A Prayer for the Tired
For the long days when faith feels more like holding on than reaching out.
God of the morning and the late hour, we come to you worn.
Some of us are tired in the body, our work unfinished and our rest too short. Some of us are tired in the heart, carrying worries we cannot set down. Some of us are tired of ourselves, of the same failings returned to again. You know each kind, and you do not ask us to pretend otherwise.
We thank you that you are not impatient with the slow. You meet us where we are, not where we think we ought to be. Steady the hands that shake. Quiet the mind that will not settle. Give us enough light for the next step, and the trust to take it.
When we have no words, hear the silence as prayer. When we have no strength, be our strength. And at the end of this day, grant us sleep without fear, and a morning that begins again in your mercy.
Amen.
