A Prayer for the Spirit's Guidance

Holy Spirit, you were promised by Jesus and sent by the Father, and we ask you now to do in us what you were sent to do. Guide us into all the truth. We are prone to half-truths and to comfortable errors, and we cannot find our way by ourselves. Speak to us what you hear, and make the words of Jesus clear.

Take what is his and make it known to us. Show us the Son so plainly that we cannot mistake him for anyone else, and glorify him in our thinking, our speaking, and our homes.

Do your convicting work in the world, and do it in us as well. Where we have not believed, show us. Where we have doubted that Jesus is righteous, prove him right. Where we have feared the powers of this age, remind us that their prince already stands condemned.

There are things Jesus had to say that his disciples could not bear, and there are things we cannot yet bear either. Teach us at the pace we can receive. Be with us today, in us and among us, so that we are never truly alone. We pray in the name of Jesus, who went away so that you would come. Amen.
