A Prayer for Rest While the Matter Is Settled
A Sunday prayer for those whose future is in someone else's hands.
Ruth 3:18NIV
Lord, on this day of rest we bring you the matters we cannot settle ourselves. We have done what we can. We have gone down to the threshing floor and asked. Now the outcome sits with others, or simply with time, and we find that waiting is harder than acting.
Remind us that our redeemer will not rest until the matter is finished. You have taken up our cause in Jesus Christ, our kinsman, who was willing and able to pay. Teach us the stillness that comes from trusting his diligence rather than our own.
Cover us with your garment. Give rest to the anxious, security to the uncertain and a home to those who have none. And for anyone who has been bold this week and now must wait for the answer, grant the quiet confidence of Ruth sitting with Naomi at dawn, with barley in her lap and the morning coming. In Jesus' name. Amen.
