A Prayer for Fruit

Lord, you looked for fruit on the tree and found only leaves. We are afraid you might find the same in us. We have activity and we have words. We are not sure we have prayer.

Make us a house of prayer. Clear from our lives the tables and the trade, the busyness we have mistaken for devotion. Give room in us for the outsider, so that anyone looking for you could find you here.

You told the disciples to have faith in you. We take that command for ourselves. We ask for the mountains in front of us to move, and we ask for the faith to keep asking when they do not.

And before we go further, we forgive. Whatever we have held against anyone, we lay it down, so that we can receive the mercy we are asking for. Amen.
