A Prayer for Eyes That See in Stages
A prayer shaped by the blind man of Bethsaida and Peter's confession.
Mark 8:22-30NIV
Lord Jesus, at Bethsaida you touched a blind man once and he saw people like trees walking, and you touched him again and he saw everything clearly. We are the man between the touches. We see something. We know your name. We can say, with Peter, that you are the Messiah. But our sight is blurred, and we mistake what you are doing, and we would correct you if we could.
Touch us again. Give us clear sight of the cross, yours first, and then the one you ask us to take up. Do not let us hold the right title and the wrong Jesus.
When we take you aside to tell you there must be another way, be kind enough to rebuke us and put us back behind you, where followers belong. We do not ask to understand everything. We ask to see you clearly enough to keep walking. Amen.
