A Prayer at the Bush
Shaped by the calling of Moses in Exodus 3 and 4.
Exodus 3:1-4:17NIV
Holy God, you spoke to a shepherd from a bush that burned and was not consumed, and you told him the ground was holy. Teach us to turn aside. So much of our week passes without our looking, and we do not want to miss you because we were in a hurry.
You are the God who is. You do not depend on our strength, our circumstances, or our readiness. When we ask who we are to do what you ask, answer us as you answered Moses, with your presence rather than our credentials.
Forgive our excuses. We have said we cannot speak, we have said no one will listen, and we have said, in our hearts, send someone else. You made our mouths. You know our fears. Where you have already sent an Aaron to stand with us, open our eyes to see them and our pride to receive them.
Send us, and go with us, and bring us back to worship you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
