Jerusalem bishop condemns attack on Karak church as Anglican leaders gather in Kigali

By The FaithDaily Desk

Good morning. Bishop Hosam Naoum, the Bishop Coadjutor of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, condemned a terrorist attack that targeted the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George in Hamoud town, in Karak Governorate, in a statement issued on Sunday. Anglican Ink carried the report. It was datelined Amman and credited to the news agency Petra.

The detail that matters here is who spoke and for whom. The church attacked belongs to the Orthodox tradition. The bishop who condemned the attack is an Anglican. That a leader of one tradition should speak up for a congregation of another is not remarkable in these places; it is the ordinary shape of Christian life under threat. Anglican Ink did not, in the material supplied, give a toll or name those harmed, and so neither will this briefing.

Anglican Ink also published a report by Archbishop Mbanda on the installation of a new primate of Rwanda. The Global Anglican Council gathered in Kigali on 22 and 23 October, with a concluding meeting on Sunday 25 October. Mbanda called the installation important. The report did not, as supplied, name the incoming primate.

Charisma News returned to a crime from earlier in the year. It reported that Elon Musk, in an interview with the biographer Walter Isaacson, said the man who killed three people outside an Austin bar in March had been fired from Tesla's Gigafactory months before. According to Musk, as reported by Charisma News, the man had assaulted a female coworker who had stepped on his prayer rug. The claim is Musk's, relayed by the outlet; the briefing attributes it no further.

The Gospel Coalition published a reflection titled "Broken Bodies Make Beautiful Temples." It argued, in its own words, that "we must view our foreign-feeling bodies as vessels through which God demonstrates his redeeming strength." It was an essay rather than a news report, offered to readers for whom the body itself feels like unfamiliar ground.

Taken together, Sunday held both condemnation and celebration. A church was attacked and a bishop spoke against it. A church installed a new leader.

Zoom out: On Sunday, Anglican Ink published both a bishop's condemnation of an attack on a church in Karak Governorate and a report on the installation of a new primate of Rwanda.
