The Whole Truth at His Feet

Observe. Mark tells us the woman's history in a single long sentence: twelve years of bleeding, many doctors, all her money gone, and she is worse. Her plan is to touch his clothes and slip away. The plan works, physically. Then Jesus stops, looks around, and will not move on until she comes forward. She falls at his feet and tells him everything.

Interpret. Under the law of Moses, her condition made her ceremonially unclean, and anyone she touched became unclean too. She had every reason to stay hidden. Jesus's insistence on finding her is not to shame her. It is to bring her out of secrecy into relationship. Healing was not the end of what he wanted for her. He wanted her seen, named as daughter, and sent away in peace, not just cured.

Apply. Many of us come to Jesus the way she did, reaching from behind, hoping for help without exposure. He gives the help. He also asks for the whole truth. What have you been receiving from God in secret that he is now asking you to say out loud? Is there a part of your story you assume would make you unwelcome in his presence? And what would change if you believed he stopped the whole crowd just to speak peace to you?
