The Weight You Were Not Meant to Carry
Jesus offers rest not as escape from work but as a different way of bearing it.
Some tiredness sleep cannot reach. You rest, and wake still carrying the same load. This is the tiredness Jesus speaks to.
In Matthew's Gospel he says: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30).
Notice what he does not say. He does not promise the burden will vanish. A yoke is a tool for work. What changes is who pulls with you, and how.
Sit with the three verses slowly. Which burden came to mind first? Name it, plainly. You do not need the right words.
Then consider the phrase "gentle and humble in heart." The rest on offer is not a reward for finishing. It is given to those who come while still weary. That is the order: come first, learn second, rest found along the way.
Carry one line into the day. Let the rest be his to give.
