Verse of the Day: Psalm 46:10
A single command, given to a people under pressure, asks less of us than we expect and more.
Today's verse is Psalm 46:10. The New International Version reads: "He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'"
The words arrive in the middle of a psalm about upheaval. Mountains fall into the sea. Nations are in uproar. Into that noise comes a short instruction: be still.
Stillness here is not idleness. It is the act of stopping, if only for a moment, the work of holding everything together ourselves. The verse does not promise that the trouble has ended. It promises that God remains God while the trouble lasts.
For a reader who is tired, this is worth sitting with. You are not asked to feel calm on command. You are asked to be still, and from that stillness, to know.
Read it again slowly. Let the first clause do its work before you reach for the next task.
