The Spirit of Truth Will Guide You
Jesus promises that his followers will not be left to work out the truth on their own.
John 16:13NIV
John 16:13. Jesus tells the disciples that when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide them into all the truth. He will not speak on his own but will speak only what he hears, and he will tell them what is yet to come.
The disciples were about to lose the person who had answered their questions for three years. Jesus had already said that he had much more to tell them, more than they could bear at present. This verse is his answer to the problem. The teaching will continue. The teacher is changing form.
The Spirit guides into truth. He does not invent it or replace it. What he speaks is what he hears, which is why the New Testament could be written by men who did not understand what they were living through at the time. It is also why an ordinary believer with a Bible and an open heart can be led, on a Wednesday in July, into something true about God. Ask for that guidance today. It is the specific work of the Spirit to give it, and Jesus promised he would.
