New Every Morning
A promise written in grief still holds at dawn.
Lamentations 3:22-23 says, "Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
These words come from a book of mourning. The writer has watched a city fall and has counted the cost in plain terms. He does not pretend the loss away. He does not explain it. In the middle of the lament, he turns and says this.
That is worth noticing. The claim is not that the morning erases what happened. It is that mercy arrives again, fresh, before we have earned it or asked. Yesterday's supply is spent; today's is already here.
If you are tired, read it slowly. The faithfulness is not yours to manufacture. It is described as great, and as his. You wake, and it has come to meet you. Whatever the day holds, it begins with a compassion that did not run out overnight.
