New Every Morning
When the night has been long, the oldest comfort is also the freshest.
Lamentations was written in grief. A city had fallen. The writer saw it, and did not look away. In the middle of that book, almost without warning, comes a line that has steadied readers ever since.
"Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." (Lamentations 3:22-23, NIV)
Notice what it does not say. It does not say the ruin was undone. It does not promise the morning will be easy. It says only that mercy arrives fresh with the light, the way bread is baked again each day rather than kept from yesterday.
If you are tired, this is for you. You do not need to store up enough faith to last a week. You need enough for today. Tomorrow will bring its own supply. The love that holds you is not rationed, and it does not run thin by evening.
So rest tonight. The morning is already carrying something for you.
