He Has Done Everything Well
A Gentile crowd sums up what they have seen, and gets it exactly right.
Mark 7:37NIV
Mark 7:37. Jesus has just healed a man who was deaf and could hardly speak. The people who witnessed it are overwhelmed with amazement, and their verdict is simple: he has done everything well; he even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.
These are not Jewish crowds in Galilee. Jesus is in the Decapolis, Gentile territory, the same region that once asked him to leave. Now they are singing his praises, and their words echo Isaiah's promise that when God comes, the ears of the deaf will be unstopped and the mute tongue will shout for joy.
Why does the verse matter today? Because everything well is a large claim, and we do not always feel it. There are prayers that seem unanswered and losses that do not resolve. But the crowd was not reasoning from their circumstances in general. They were reasoning from what they had just seen him do. That remains the pattern. Look at the specific things he has done, in Scripture and in your life, and let those teach you what to expect from what he has not yet done.
