God Has Brought Me Laughter
The laugh of disbelief in Genesis 18 becomes a laugh of joy in Genesis 21, and Sarah wants everyone to join in.
Genesis 21:6NIV
Genesis 21:6. Sarah says that God has brought her laughter, and that everyone who hears about this will laugh with her. The child's name is Isaac, which means he laughs, and the name now carries a different tone than it did when Abraham fell on his face chuckling or when Sarah snorted behind the tent flap. The laugh has turned. It is the laugh of a ninety-year-old woman nursing a baby.
The Lord did for Sarah what he had promised, the chapter begins, at the very time God had promised. Twenty-five years after the call in Harran. The delay was not a failure; it was the appointed time.
Some of the things you have laughed at bitterly may yet become things you laugh about with joy. God specializes in that reversal. He does not erase the old laughter; he redeems it and invites the neighbors to join in. Today, notice one thing God has done that you once thought impossible, and let yourself laugh about it.
