Cast it, because he cares
The most quoted comfort in 1 Peter is a single clause with a reason attached.
1 Peter 5:7NIV
1 Peter 5:7. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
The verb is physical. To cast is to throw, the way you would throw a heavy bag onto a cart so that you do not have to carry it further. It is not a gentle laying down. It takes some effort, and it is decisive. Anxiety is not meant to be managed a little more efficiently. It is meant to be thrown.
The reason is the second half. He cares for you. Not he can handle it, though he can. Not it is not as bad as you think, which is sometimes false. He cares. Anxiety is often the feeling that no one is minding the things we cannot mind ourselves. Peter says someone is.
This verse is actually the tail of a sentence that begins in verse 6 with humility. Humble yourselves under God's mighty hand, casting all your anxiety on him. Casting is what humility does with worry. The proud carry it. The humble throw it.
