Be Still, and Know
A single line from Psalm 46 invites the tired reader to stop striving and to trust.
The verse is Psalm 46:10. In the NIV it reads: "He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'"
The psalm around it is loud. Mountains fall into the sea. Nations are in uproar. Kingdoms give way. Into all that noise comes one quiet command: be still.
It is not an easy thing to do. Stillness can feel like idleness, or like giving up. Here it is neither. It is the choice to stop carrying what was never ours to carry, and to let God be God.
You do not have to fix everything today. You do not have to understand everything. You are asked only to be still, and to know.
Read the whole psalm when you can. Let this line sit with you: "I will be exalted in the earth." The work is his. The rest is yours to receive.
