Prayer in the Boat
A prayer for anyone crossing rough water, shaped by Mark 4.
Mark 4:35-41NIV
Lord Jesus, you were in the boat when the storm came, and you were not anxious. We confess that we are. We look at the water rising and we forget that you are with us. We wake you with accusations, asking whether you care, when you have never once left us to drown.
Speak to the storms we are in today. Some of them are outside us, in our work, our finances, the bodies of people we love. Some of them are inside, in our fears and our long habits of doubt. You have authority over both. Say to them what you said to the sea.
And when the calm comes, keep us from forgetting. Let the question the disciples asked become our worship: who is this, that even the wind and waves obey him? We know the answer. You are the Son of God, and you are in the boat with us.
Give us faith that holds before the wind stops, not only after. In your name we pray, Amen.
