Faithful Creator
A prayer for those in the ordeal, from 1 Peter 4.
1 Peter 4:12-19NIV
Faithful Creator, we commit ourselves to you. That is what your servant Peter told us to do, and we are doing it now, with whatever trust we can gather.
Some of us are in a fire we did not expect. Forgive our surprise. We assumed that following you would keep the heat away, and you never promised that. You promised to be with us in it. Help us to stop asking why it is strange and to start asking how to share in the sufferings of Christ without shame.
Search us, too. If any of our trouble comes from our own wrongdoing, from meddling where we were not asked, from words we should not have spoken, show us, and let us take our share of the blame instead of calling it persecution.
Keep us doing good. Not heroic good, just the ordinary kind, tomorrow and the day after, while we wait for you. And bring us to the day when your glory is revealed and the joy is more than we can hold. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.
