A Prayer Under the Blood

Shaped by the night of Passover in Exodus 12.

The FaithDaily Desk1 min read

Exodus 12:1-30NIV

Lord God, on the night you struck Egypt you spared every house with blood on its door. You did not ask how much the people inside understood or how well they had behaved. You looked at the sign and passed over. We thank you that our safety rests in what you see and not in what we feel.

Christ is our Passover lamb. His blood is on the door of our lives. When judgment comes, look on him and pass over us. Let that be our confidence tonight and every night.

Reset our calendar. We have been counting from our failures for too long. Teach us to count from the night you brought us out, so that everything else, our work, our worries and our plans, takes its place after that.

Make our homes strange enough that our children ask why, and make us ready to tell them the story: you rescued us. We were slaves, and you brought us out with a mighty hand. Amen.

A Prayer for the Tired

For the end of a long day, when strength is thin and the mind will not settle.
