A Prayer to Listen
Asking for ears as well as eyes
Mark 9:2-13NIV
Father, you spoke from the cloud and told the disciples to listen to your Son. We confess that we would often rather see than hear. We ask for signs and then ignore the words you have already given us.
Teach us to listen. Quiet the noise we carry in with us, the lists and worries and half-finished arguments, so that the words of Jesus can reach us. Make us slow to build shelters around our own experiences and quick to follow him down the mountain into the ordinary week.
Thank you that when the cloud lifted, Jesus remained. He is enough. When our seasons of clarity fade, keep us near him, and let what we have once seen carry us through what we cannot yet see.
Give us this weekend as a gift, and give us ears for your Son within it. Amen.
