A Prayer of Intercession

A prayer modeled on Abraham's plea for Sodom, for the places and people we carry before God.

Genesis 18:22-33NIV

Judge of all the earth, you let Abraham stand before you and plead for a city that had done nothing to deserve it. You let him ask six times, and six times you said yes. We take that as permission.

So we stand before you now for our own cities, our own streets, our own families. We do not know how many righteous are there. We know that you are merciful and that you do right. On that basis alone we ask you to spare, to delay, to rescue, to bring people out by the hand even when they hesitate.

We pray for those who are living in Sodom and do not see the smoke yet. Remember them, as you remembered Lot for Abraham's sake. Send whoever you must to grasp their hands.

We are dust and ashes, and yet you have invited us to speak. Give us the nerve to keep asking, and the faith to go home afterward and trust you with the outcome. In the name of Jesus, who intercedes for us still. Amen.

A Prayer for the Tired

For the end of a long day, when strength is thin and the mind will not settle.
