A Prayer for the Weary Hour
A prayer for anyone carrying more than the day asked them to carry.
Father, the day is not yet over, and already we are tired. We come to you as we are, not as we think we ought to be. Thank you for meeting us here.
You know the work still undone and the words we wish we had not said. You know the quiet worry we have told no one. We lay these before you now and ask for your mercy, which is new each morning and does not run out by evening.
Steady our hands for what remains. Loosen our grip on what we cannot change. Give us enough light for the next step, and the willingness to take it.
Where we have been short with others, make us gentle. Where we have been hard on ourselves, make us honest and kind.
Keep our families, our neighbours, and those who are far from home tonight. Guard those who will not sleep for pain or fear.
And when at last we rest, let us rest in you, trusting that you hold what we have set down. Amen.
