A Prayer for the Tired

God of the long day, we come to you tired.

Some of us are tired in the body, from work that asked everything we had. Some of us are tired in the mind, from worry that would not lie down. Some of us cannot say what has worn us thin, only that we feel it.

We do not bring you a finished day. We bring you an unfinished one — the call not made, the person not helped, the task carried over into tomorrow. Receive it as it is. You have never asked us to be more than we are.

Give us rest that is real rest, not merely stopping. Quiet the voice that keeps a ledger of our failures. Remind us that we are held whether we achieve or not, whether we are strong today or weak.

And when morning comes, let us begin again, unhurried, one thing at a time.
