A Prayer for the Tired

A prayer for anyone who comes to the end of the day with more weight than words.

The FaithDaily Desk1 min read

God our maker, we come as we are, not as we wish we were. Some of us arrive rested. Many of us arrive tired, carrying work left unfinished and worry that will not settle. You know each of us by name, and you do not ask us to pretend.

Quiet the noise we cannot quiet ourselves. Teach us to rest in what is true rather than in what we can manage. Your word says, "Be still, and know that I am God." Help us to be still, even for a moment, and to trust that you remain God while we sleep.

Give us enough for today. Give us bread, give us patience, and give us the grace to be kind to the people nearest us. Where we have wronged someone, make us willing to mend it. Where someone has wronged us, soften what has hardened.

Keep every household through the hours of darkness. Watch over those who work while others sleep, those who are afraid, and those who grieve. Bring us to morning with hope we did not earn.

Amen.
