A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when the work is unfinished and the hour is late.
God of the morning and the evening, we come to you as we are, with our hands still full and our minds not yet quiet. We have carried much today. Some of it we chose, and some of it was laid on us. You know the difference, even when we have lost track.
Teach us to set down what is not ours to hold through the night. Give us the honesty to name what went wrong, and the grace to leave it with you until the light returns. We do not ask to feel strong. We ask to rest.
Watch over those who cannot rest tonight: the sick, the grieving, the frightened, those who keep watch while others sleep. Be near to them in ways we cannot be.
And when morning comes, meet us there. Remind us that your mercies are new each day, and that we begin again not by our own power but by yours.
Amen.
