A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when the work is not finished and the heart is worn thin.
God of the morning and the late hour, I come to you tired.
The day asked more of me than I had to give, and some of what I began still waits. I set it down now, here, where you can see it. I trust that you see it more clearly than I do.
Quiet the voice that keeps counting what I did not finish. Teach me the difference between the work that is mine to carry and the work that is yours. Let me lay the rest in your hands without shame.
Give me rest that is real. Not escape, but repair. Mend what the day frayed. Steady what it shook.
And in the morning, when the list begins again, let me meet it as one who is held, not one who is driven. Be near to everyone who reads this and cannot sleep. Keep them, and keep me, through the dark and into the light.
Amen.
