A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when the mind is too worn to find its own words.
Father, I come to you with little left. The day has taken what it wanted, and I have given it. Now there is quiet, and in the quiet I am not sure what to say. So I will say only this: here I am.
You know the undone things, the words I wish I had not spoken, the kindness I meant to offer and forgot. I lay them down. I cannot carry them into sleep.
Thank you for the small mercies I almost missed — a meal, a familiar face, a task finished. Thank you that your love does not depend on my strength, which is good, because tonight I have none.
Keep those I love while I rest. Keep the anxious, the grieving, the ones awake at this hour with no one beside them. Steady my heart. Let me wake tomorrow willing to begin again.
In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
