A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when the work is not finished and the strength is nearly gone.
Lord, it is late, and I am tired. You know this already. You know the undone list, the words I wish I had not said, the words I meant to say and did not. I bring all of it to you now, not tidied, not explained, just set down.
Thank you for the hours that held together. Thank you for the people who were patient with me, and for the small mercies I was too busy to notice until now.
Where I was harsh, soften me. Where I was afraid, steady me. Where I carried what was never mine to carry, teach me to lay it down.
Keep those I love through the night. Keep the ones I forgot to pray for. Keep the ones who have no one else.
Give me sleep that mends, and a morning that begins again. I do not need to understand everything tonight. It is enough that you are near.
Amen.
