A Prayer for the Tired
For anyone who comes to the end of the day with more questions than strength.
Faithful God, we come to you plainly, because we have little left to dress up. The day asked much of us. Some of it we met well. Some of it we did not. You know which was which, and you love us through both.
Give us rest that is more than sleep. Quiet the voice that keeps tallying what we failed to finish. Remind us that the work does not hold the world together — you do.
Be near to the ones we love and the ones we struggle to love. Be near to those who have no one to pray for them tonight.
Where we are afraid, steady us. Where we are proud, soften us. Where we are weary, carry us.
We ask nothing clever. Only your presence, and the morning when it comes. Amen.
