A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when strength is thin and the heart is still willing.
God of the morning and the evening, we come as we are. Some of us are rested. Many of us are worn down to the thread. You know the difference, and you welcome both.
We thank you for the work of this day, the parts we are proud of and the parts we would undo. We lay them all in your hands. What we got right, keep. What we got wrong, mend.
Be near to the ones who are frightened tonight. Sit with the grieving. Steady the anxious. Guard those who are travelling, those who are working while others sleep, and those who cannot sleep at all.
Teach us to be gentle with each other and with ourselves. Give us enough for tomorrow, and no more worry than today requires. Quiet our minds. Loosen our grip. Let us rest in the knowledge that we are held.
Amen.
