A Prayer for Monday's Table
A prayer to begin the week, asking to answer the right invitation.
Proverbs 9:1-6NIV
Lord, two voices are calling us this morning. One has built a house and set a table and prepared a meal at real cost. The other sits in a doorway offering what she has stolen. We know which is which, and still we are tempted toward the secret and the sweet.
Give us ears for Wisdom's servants. Let us hear the call to leave our simple ways and live. Let us come in and eat, and be satisfied by what you have prepared rather than hungry for what you have forbidden.
We remember that you have set a table for us in Christ. He is the bread. He is the wine that was mixed. Whatever the week holds, let us keep coming back to that table, in prayer, in Scripture, in the company of your people.
Teach us to love correction, because that is how we will know whose house we have been eating at. Make us wise, make us understanding, and give us the knowledge of the Holy One that is the start of everything. In the name of Jesus, the wisdom of God. Amen.
