A Prayer After a Bad Week
Shaped by Moses' complaint and God's answer in Exodus 5 and 6.
Exodus 5:22-6:8NIV
LORD, Moses came to you and asked why you had sent him, because obeying had only made things worse. We come to you with our own version of that question. We have tried to do what you said, and some of it has cost us, and some of it has not turned out as we hoped. You did not silence Moses, so we will not pretend with you.
Answer us as you answered him. Remind us who you are. Say again that you will bring us out, that you will free us, that you will redeem us, that you will take us as your own and be our God. We believe those promises are ours in Christ, and we ask you to make them feel true this week, not just sound true.
Give us patience with a deliverance that unfolds slowly. Keep us from turning on the people you sent to help us, as the foremen turned on Moses. And let those who now ask who you are come to know your name.
Through Jesus, who was brought low so that we could be brought out. Amen.
