The Weight You Were Not Built to Carry
Rest is not a reward for the strong; it is an invitation held out to the tired.
There is a kind of tiredness that sleep does not touch. You lie down and the list keeps reading itself. The jobs undone. The conversation that went wrong. The people you are holding up, and the quiet fear that no one is holding you.
Into exactly this, Jesus speaks. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Notice who is addressed. Not the capable. Not the finished. The weary. If you are tired tonight, you are not outside this sentence. You are its subject.
He goes on. "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:29). A yoke is a wooden frame laid across the shoulders so a load can be pulled. It is still work. He does not promise an empty life. He promises a different fit. The burden that is crushing you may not be the one he handed you. Some of it you picked up on your own. Some of it was pressed on you by others. He offers to take the frame off and set a better one in its place.
"For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:30).
So lay it down for a moment. Not forever, perhaps. Just now. Name one thing you have been carrying that was never yours to carry. Hand it over. Then sleep, if you can. The work will still be there in the morning, and so will he.

Rest is not a reward for finishing your work; it is an invitation offered in the middle of it.
The Rest That Comes Before the Work
Jesus offers tired people not an escape from labour but a different way of carrying it.
